We got our Directors to write a personal blog-a-day throughout July.

Throughout July our Directors have been participating in a blog-a-day challenge. Outside of the confines of the Social INK brand they have been blogging on their personal websites: ChrisBruno.co and JamesODonnell.co.uk. I know I know – it’s only a blog-a-day. But this was a great challenge to get the wheels spinning following a return from lockdown.

After a few months of full-time Daddy Day Care, in which JOD produced very little content at all, this was an ideal way to get the creative juices flowing and to get back on the content creation horse. For Chris, who had managed to keep umpteen plates spinning through the crisis, it was nice to produce some content away from the Social INK brand (as much as we love it!). Topics have ranged from morning routines to touch-typing to remote working tactics.

We love a challenge at Social INK

As you may know, Social INK are not adverse to challenges – they are a fantastic way to break out of your comfort zone and experiment without worrying about results. It’s only a month – let’s do it and see if we like it and if it works. If it works – in other words, gains traction and results in more visitors then we do 2 things:

Firstly, roll out a sustainable model for Social INK – as we have done with the All About Digital Marketing Podcast (7,500 downloads and counting!).

Secondly, we look at the coaches, consultants and businesses that we are coaching or delivering for and see how we might incorporate a version of the challenge into their delivery.

The benefits of running monthly challenges

With any of these challenges one of the key learnings is the workflow behind the scenes that turn the idea into content and then distribution. Often that’s where most of the advances are made. We don’t want to embark on a challenge or a project that is going to take ages to do and something we don’t enjoy.

We both agree that the blog challenge has been fun and has allowed us to exercise our little grey cells outside of Social INK. This will actually help us be more creative and effective for the work we do inside the brand and for our clients.

Have you used a challenge to kickstart your return to work after lockdown – drop us a note at [email protected] or on Twitter via @SocialINK_co we’d love to hear what you have done to step out of your comfort zone! We might even get you on the podcast to talk about it. 🤗
