We Launched Our Own Social Media Marketing Courses
During the course of 2019, we’ve set ourselves some pretty ambitious challenges as an agency. You see, we feel that you need to practise what you preach. As a digital marketing agency, how can we tell our clients they should blog 3 times a week, charge them for the pleasure, but not do it ourselves? This month’s challenge was slightly different though. This month we launched our very own social media marketing courses — PostLikeShare.com.
Now, when I say ambitious challenges, I’m talking about things we wouldn’t recommend most SMEs trying at home (well in the office). For example, 100 blogs in 30 days (something my team will never let me forget as being one of “my ideas”). Or 30 days of Live, where every day (even on weekends), one of us went live on a social media platform. How about creating, recording and launching a podcast in July? Another epic challenge that we pulled off.
Everything we’ve done these past few months is to showcase the impact these things can have and what’s involved in the process. It’s a way for us to show you that we don’t believe in “do what I say, not what I do”. We’re very firmly in favour of “talk the talk, and walk the walk!”
In a Galaxy Far Far Away
Two years ago I wanted to build a platform for people who were just starting out. It was back then that I purchased the domain, www.postlikeshare.com. I wanted to help people who were starting companies, the solo-preneurs, freelancers, people who were in the same position I was in, back in 2008, when I started Social INK. When you’ve decided that you really want to start your own business, or work for yourself, there’s a lot to do.
You start by figuring out what you want to do. Then you find out there’s a ton of paperwork, taxes and company stuff to sort out too. Once you’ve done that, you realise you need to find clients. And then, once you’ve got them, you need to do the work for them, keep them happy, and find more clients. Then the whole cycle repeats with a barrage of more paperwork, accounting issues, more taxes and finally, if you’re lucky and it’s all come together, some money at the end of each month.
At some point it hits you, and you realise, you need to be marketing. That simple website you built is a good start, but it’s not going to bring in the clients on its own. Now you’re into your second Gary Vee book and you’re reading Seth Godin’s blog every day. You’re looking for the holy grail. The magic button that makes everything come together.
You attend a webinar, maybe even two. You start thinking, “WOW! What the hell is this stuff all about?” You’re supposed to write blogs, post on social media, create adverts, take cool product pics; do all these amazing things, and network, present and market the whole company in a way that attracts the big dollars, whilst also running a business.
“Stuff this marketing rubbish! I’ll focus just on talking to some of the people I know. I’ll find some work through them”.
It’s not going to be sustainable, and you know it. But for now, it’s better than trying to keep up with everyone’s expectations of what you’re supposed to do for marketing.
We All Live and Learn
Invariable, these things are cyclical. During the period when your taxes are due, you start wishing you had a better system. Conversely, if you just updated all your records every month, “that would have been sooooo much easier now that I look back on it.”
When money is coming in, you feel good. You’re pumped and you’re the king of the world.
Suddenly, things go quiet. Now you’re grasping at straws.
“What’s that new platform called? Tik-What? That’ll save me. I just need to get on there and market myself.”
It’s not a new story. Don’t worry. You are most definitely not alone. In fact, I went through it in our early days as an agency. It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day, only to realise that you’re missing the bigger picture.
Some of the worst culprits are usually marketers, copywriters and freelancers (in the marketing sector), who all offer services to help clients find more customers, yet they completely overlook marketing themselves.
The truth is, that shouldn’t be the case.
2 Years Later
As a team, we set out on our August challenge. We kept it quiet. No one knew exactly what the challenge was at first, but this was it. In just 31 days of August, we were going to build a platform, focused on social media marketing courses.
2 years in the making. 24 months of thinking about what I wanted this to be. 104 weeks of cogitating on why I wanted it to happen. Nearly 730 days later, here we are. We’ve launched!
Post Like Share isn’t like most of the social media marketing courses you’ll find out there. I know what you’re thinking: that’s what they all say – but hear me out. You see, we wanted to create the opportunity for everyone to be able to have access to a full marketing agency’s knowledge and experience, without the price tag of engaging them on a large monthly retainer.
Our premium package as an agency would set you back more than £10k per month. Most startups, freelancers, solo-preneurs and small businesses simply don’t have the resources for this. Especially not in the early days.
So we created the PLS Accelerator Programme. An 8-week coaching course, to help you learn the way we, as an agency, consistently create and distribute content that generates real results for our clients.
This isn’t a one-man band telling you how to do it, even though they’ve never done it, or don’t do it anymore.
We’re not promising you the immediate fast-way to 10x your results and bank account.
What we are offering you, is the chance to finally understand how brands consistently create and release content on their blog and social media. All year round. With a purpose.
Social Media Marketing Courses
At this stage, you’re either thinking, “I don’t have the time for that”, or you’re thinking, “The intern posts on Facebook for us. What’s the issue?”
- No Time – When we say we don’t have time for something, what we’re really saying is we don’t want to do it. We don’t value it enough in the grand scheme of things to make the time for it.
Think of it like going to the gym. Some people make it to the gym, every day, before a full day’s work. They value the gym, the health benefits, the feeling of a workout, the energy they get post-workout, or maybe they love seeing the results from their hard work.
Either way, they value it and they find the time every day to make it work for them.
It’s no different with your social media marketing. If you don’t value it, you’ll never make time or invest in it. And that could mean you miss out on the biggest opportunity for your business. Which brings us to point number two.
- The Value of Social Media Marketing – Often, people look at marketing, social media, and advertising as a zero-sum game. I put in X, I get Y back. Either I made money from my efforts, or I lost money from my efforts.
Looking at marketing, social media, or advertising as a nothing more than a single line in your accounts ledger is a sure-fire way to miss all the important aspects that go with it.
Whilst ROI is important, it’s something that comes into the picture later on. How many of your customers could be repeat customers? Where do you communicate with prospects to help them reach their purchasing decision? How recognisable or known is your brand? Are people talking about you and your products/services?
These are all of the areas social media marketing can impact. And we’re just touching the tip of the iceberg.
Whichever camp you fall into, you need to start moving over to the ‘social media plays a vital role in your business, whether you realise it or not’ mindset.
Let me break this down and give you some insight as to why this is the case.
Social Media Marketing: The Stats
- Facebook currently has 1.5 BILLION daily active users.
Let that sink in for a moment. Nearly a quarter of the entire planet check their Facebook every day.
If you’re still thinking “so what?” let’s think about it in terms of your business. How many clients do you need to have an ‘ok’, a ‘good’, or a ‘great’ month? Is it 5/10/25/100?
In the grand scheme of things, even if you needed 1,000 clients, it’s still such an obscenely small part of the available audience, just on Facebook, that you’d be mad not to seize the opportunity.
- Instagram currently has 1 BILLION monthly active users.
Once again, if we’re looking for our 10, 25, or 100 customers to get us from a quiet month to a good month, the chances are, that audience is available to you on this platform.
But what about the knock-on effect? Yes, you may well find some clients, but what happens when someone sees your product/service and then suddenly thinks, “This would be great for John.” That person now tags a new prospect, and that introduction/recommendation just became a warm lead.
- YouTube right now has more than 500 hours of content added to it every minute.
People are creating and consuming more content online than ever before. This is another huge opportunity for businesses. Creating valuable content that resonates with your prospects is how you can stand out from your competitors and build your business.
“But I Don’t Use Social Media”
No matter what your personal thoughts are, no matter your personal habits, the stats don’t lie.
Today, right now, you have the biggest opportunity to get yourself, your brand and your products/services in front of a huge potential audience. And there are no excuses for not finding the time or valuing the opportunity that’s presented.
If you don’t know how don’t panic. You’re not alone.
You now understand the size of the platforms, the value that they can offer, and the on-going knock-on effects this can have on your business. As Seth Godin calls it, the Minimum Viable Audience can transform your business in a huge way.
Finding those 100 or 1000 people that really buy into you, your brand and your products/services is all it takes to propel your business to the next level.
All you need to do is value the opportunity that social media marketing offers and invest the time required for you, or your company, to learn the skills, systems and tools to consistently generate engaging content that will resonate with and attract your ideal clients.
That’s why we created the Post Like Share – Social Media Marketing Courses.
