Prospective clients often ask us questions that make it clear they want an instant solution. After all, who doesn’t want overnight results? Fundamentally, people are looking for the “magic button” to generate leads online. Here’s the thing. To all of you that are looking for that “easy, get-rich-quick scheme” for your online lead generation — it doesn’t exist!
No-one I’ve met has started a website, and 6 months later sold it for millions of pounds. Possibly millions of Vietnamese Dong (1,000,000 Vietnamese Dong = £33.66). The fact remains, there isn’t a magic button on the internet that people press to suddenly “go viral”. You won’t find one thing that will immediately generate hundreds of leads for you. Especially if you haven’t tried and analysed content beforehand.
The reason I’m writing this is to let you all know, there is nothing worse for your marketing agency than asking them to “help you go viral” or “to generate hundreds of leads with a budget of £100 per week”.
A lot of people online are going to disagree with me. Some people will even say that if you simply sign up to their service, you’re going to start getting leads straight away (if you pay, of course). A handful would even accuse me of simply not being good at marketing, as a result of this article.
Here’s the thing, I’m ok for this piece of content not to resonate with everybody. Trying to please everyone is impossible. Ad the more you try, the more you water down your opinions and your beliefs.
Since 2008, I’ve been helping small to mid-sized businesses build online presences that work for them. This doesn’t always mean selling online — sometimes it’s about registrations, signups, or even focused around customer service.
For more than a decade, I’ve created images, blog posts, videos, infographics, online magazines, websites and more, for companies from London to Dubai. During that time I’ve learnt a few things.
The Real ‘Button’ To Generate Leads Online
What’s the one thing that has helped generate leads more than anything else?
Quality and consistency.
Yep, that’s right. It’s not the ads, the super expensive video you spent your whole year’s marketing budget on. It’s simply turning up, again and again. Constantly being in front of people, reminding them who you are, what you do, and what you’re all about. Helping them remember why they need to reach out to you at that point when they’re ready for your product or service.
During May 2019, at Social INK we ran an internal challenge: #30DaysOfLive. For 30 days, one of the senior team went live, every day, for the entire month. We ended up creating 33 videos in total, but that’s not the point.
During that time, 5 people from within my network reached out to me asking about a project they wanted help with. That’s 5 people, who all know me, who all know what I do, but who all needed that, “Oh yeah, Chris does that at Social INK” moment.
Quality and consistency.
Showing up, again and again. Delivering quality content that adds value, as well as reminds people who you are and what you do, is what builds a relationship with your audience.
If you want your audience to trust you and buy in to what you do, you need to show up and be there, consistently.
Admittedly, this is just my opinion. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of witchdoctors out there that feel differently. And maybe, just maybe, they do have a magic button.
But I doubt it.
