How to Write Compelling Content for Your Online Sites

Getting people to visit your site is only part of the battle. Once they are there, you need them to stick around and read your content and then engage with you. If you have lackluster content that doesn’t offer the reader any insight, information, or entertainment, then he or she will simply leave. The Internet is a big place with plenty to explore, so people have no time to waste. Let’s look at some of the things you can do to improve the content on your page so readers want to keep coming back for more.

Know Your Audience

This is the most important factor. You have to know who you are writing for before you put the first word on the page. Who will you be writing to? Always have the audience in mind. Knowing the readers and your mythical ideal reader in particular, will guide you toward creating content that they actually want to read. Take some time to think like one of your potential customers or clients. What do they want to know? What are their questions and concerns? Another great aspect of knowing your audience is that they will often suggest ideas of what they want in terms of content. Make sure you are reading and responding to your comment section. It can be a wealth of ideas.

Make the Content Interesting

Lists of facts, unless they are in an infographic, simply aren’t interesting. You need a good introduction to get people excited about the content, but you need much more than that. You need to be able to tell a story, provide insight and knowledge, and leave the reader wanting to know even more. Don’t leave anything out, but make them excited to get in touch with you and ask questions. This is a great way to start building a relationship with the readers on your blog. Having a great call to action, such as asking the reader a question at the end of the post, is a good option.

Make It Easy to Scan

People do not want to face giant blocks of text. They want content that’s easy to scan so they can find the information that’s important to them. A good ways to do this is to break up the article with some headings. This way, it breaks up the page and makes it more inviting and easy to read.
