2016 Business Resolutions?
We’re fast approaching 2016 and although we are all swamped with friends’ social media posts talking about their New Year’s Resolutions (that I’m sure 90% will break in a week), we don’t really see many companies looking at what they want to achieve next year and how they are going to do it.
So I thought I would write this quick blog, inspired by the fact that the New Year is so close, to try to help you make some great choices for the up and coming year.
1 – Make It Happen!
This is quite possibly the MOST important thing about the new year. If you say your are going to do something, then make it happen! Hustle! Work for it! Keep going till it’s done! Whatever you do, do not start the year with a small fall and decide to quit altogether. This is what MOST people do, and you’re not most people are you?
2 – Work Smart!
Let me be clear, this doesn’t mean you don’t have to work hard, but working smart is the number one goal and should be at all times. How effective are you at what you do? How many hours are spent wasted doing frivolous tasks and not looking at the big picture? Set time frames, MIGs (Most Important Goals) and most importantly STICK TO THEM! Focus on one thing, prioritise it and get it done, then move on to the next.
3 – Develop!
Try to find ways to get better, stronger, faster or more intelligent! This by the way isn’t meant for purely physical aspects of your life. Do it for ALL aspects. Read books about your industry, find intelligent credible blogs to keep you informed, find ways to keep pushing your knowledge and trust me, it will come back 10X if not more in the long term.
4 – Build Relationships!
Use 2016 as the springboard to building your network. In person, online, mailing list, ALL OF IT! There is no excuse not to get out in front of people. Meet new prospects. Talk to those you have already worked with, ask them for referrals. Try to think of all the ways you find out about a new service or provider. Most of the time it will come from your “network” of family, friends and colleagues. So use this year to really build that!
5 – Stop Finding Excuses!
It’s so easy to find a reason why we will do something tomorrow. Future ME is soooooo good at getting stuff done it’s incredible. But the truth is, future you doesn’t actually exist. They’re just our make believe versions of ourselves that we use as a “get out of jail free” card, allowing us not to get something done right now.
