When we start running our own business or we are trying to launch a promotion/campaign, there is one thing that can hold us all back:
Striving for perfection!
It’s not what you are actually doing though! I know, I’ve been there. I’ve also worked with more than 150 small business owners, and I’ve seen the same pattern when it comes to them as well.
We use the idea of “perfecting” something as a great way to continue to dream. To think about how well this next launch is going to work. To reflect on ideas, look at other ideas, do some more research, we imagine and see the “future success" etc etc. The truth is all we are doing is Procrastinating. As a result we don’t get anything finished!
So how can we overcome this? How can we launch more products / services / promotions?
Let’s look at the 80/20 rule. Some of you may be familiar with this principle.
Officially it’s called the Pareto principle. In it’s simplest form, 80% of results are generated from 20% of the actions taken.
I want you all to re-read that last sentence.
“80% of results are generated from 20% of the actions taken”.
What does this mean for your business?
A lot of the time, it comes down to getting Sh#t done! We keep going round in circles rather than putting our ideas in to action, and usually this is a big problem for small businesses, especially when it comes to their Digital Marketing.
“I haven’t found the perfect post title yet, so I haven’t written my blog"
“I need to do more research, so I haven't posted the blog post”
“I’m not sure what style to write my blog in. When I figure that out, then I’ll write a post”
Here’s the truth! Getting out a blog post, in your own voice, with valuable content, with a decent title, will be FAR MORE BENEFICIAL to you and your business today, than working on that perfect post for the next 6 weeks.
Don’t get me wrong, you need to put some effort in. Check your spelling, re-read your post, make sure it makes sense… Don’t just hit the keyboard and click post!
Building your marketing and your authority takes time and commitment, but the more often you post, the better understanding you have of what works and what doesn’t.
The more posts you have online, the more of an authority you become in your field.
The truth is, 80% of your business, will come from 20% of your online efforts. What you think, or what you have built up in your head, about what WILL and what WON’T work is probably wrong. You need to do them to find out which ones will really bring in clients.
So today, start, finish and post a blog post. It might not be perfect, but remember:
"80% of results are generate from 20% of the actions taken"
