It all started when Chris told me I can film around the area again but this time I can choose my own topic. I chose street Art in London, especially being so close to Brick Lane, nearly every wall along the Lane is covered with Graffiti. So on Wednesday I left to start filming I bought along a portable charger for my phone I wanted to get as much footage as I possibly could. I deleted all the videos from my Shoreditch video but somehow my iPhone decided after 6 video clips it would inform me of no more storage space on my phone.
(HONESTLY THERE IS NOTHING ON MY PHONE!)
But I had a plan, I wasn’t going to let it stop me, I decided to start filming off Snapchat and then somehow get it off my phone and upload it to my laptop. On my journey down Brick Lane I found some amazing Art work along the buildings, it was the first time that I was just searching for the art, it was nice because she of them looked like they have been there for years and it was the first time I noticed it.
So while I was walking I started to get a bit adventurous, I started to walk around like I knew the area. I was just following the Art, I walked down 1 alley then I found another alley! Then I ended up walking down a road that had no Street art at all, I was thinking should I turn back? Then I thought to myself no, just keep going I am sure there will be more, 2 minutes walk the I found a set of stairs that leads you over some train tracks, the stairs was also filled with graffiti so I knew was in was in luck. I went up the stairs, was recording what I needed to record. When I got to the other side, I saw this BIG plank of wood which was also a door into a community garden. The door had graffiti all over it.
To be honest I didn’t realise it was a community garden at first, I poked my head in to see what was inside. (Yes I was being nosey) When I looked in I saw graffiti all over the walls inside, canvases with paintings all over them, I walked in and had a look around I saw people growing fruit & veg and it also had furniture all around, I was honestly quite confused about what this place was. There was this one guy relaxing catching a sun tan and I had to ask him what this place is.
He went on to tell me that it was a community garden, everyone is welcome to come and grow what ever they want and also make what ever they want. He took me on a little tour of the garden, he told me that all the wood and metal laying around is free for people to use for their own projects. At the end of the tour he showed me a upcoming event which is a Graffiti competition. There are going to be some Dancers, and also a DJ playing on the day, I will definitely be going to the event.
As I was on my way back to the office I couldn’t remember my way back and my battery was low, my portable charger wasn’t even charged that left me feeling quite silly. While I was trying to find my way back, I could see the Gherkin building from afar and decided to walk towards it as its near my office. after about ten minutes I had to accept the fact I was lost and had to ask the quickest way back to Brick Lane or Shoreditch. The person replied that I was two minutes away from Whitechapel station. I honestly didn’t realise I walked so far out.
I don’t want to tell you guys too much as most of the this will be in my video; it is definitely going to be a good one. For anybody that wanted to know more about the event in the community garden (In Shoreditch) just drop me a message on Twitter @NathanJ94_ I will send you over all the details.
